Fluids accumulation around the lungs (pleural effusion) is a common complication of many medical conditions including heart failure, infections and cancer.
Based on our experience and research, in up to 70 % of the cases, doctors drain pleural effusion "blindly" without an ultrasound due to shortage of ultrasound-skilled staff, ultrasound machines and the increasing number of patients.
In many cases, patients need to wait more than 4 hours and even days to get the drainage done under ultrasound guidance.
